Dr Naheed is a medical doctor and health systems specialist with a strong background in epidemiology, behavior interventions, clinical trials, and economic evaluation. She is a Scientist in icddr,b with 30 years of research experience. Dr Naheed has a long track record in infectious disease research. Her current research focuses on Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in South Asia. Dr. Naheed has published more than one hundred articles in peer reviewed journals and has received many recognitions, including the prestigious Bangladesh Academy of Science Sultan Ahmed Choudhury Science and Technology Gold Medal.
Dr Naheed has played a pivotal role in designing and testing a number of health innovations, including (i) strengthening primary care for hypertension in rural Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka (COBRA-BPS);(ii) prevention of diabetes among women with gestational diabetes in urban Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka(LIVING);(iii) enhancing laboratory capacity to identify bacterial pneumonia for supporting clinical decisions in the government hospitals Bangladesh;(iv) mental health service for mothers of children with autism in urban settings in Bangladesh, and(v) improving microbial quality of street food in urban Bangladesh.
Dr Naheed has been committed to research capacity strengthening among new generation researchers. She is the Regional Lead of a large-scale research capacity strengthening program built under The Global Health Network Asia, and founder of Clinical Research Platform, Bangladesh and Women Scientist and Beseechers Forum, icddr,b.
