Raymund was educated by the Irish Christian Brothers in Belfast and entered Queen’s University Belfast to study medicine when he was 17, qualifying in 1954. He worked as a rotating house officer at the Mater Infirmorum Hospital then went into general practice. He achieved his doctorate by examination in 1966.
