EP: Ten days after I had an intrauterine system (IUS) inserted, I developed constant and severe pain in my left shoulder. My general practitioner (GP) arranged magnetic resonance image (MRI) scans of my shoulder, neck, and spine, which showed nothing to explain the pain I was experiencing. I also started to experience double vision in my right eye, tinnitus, and sporadic full hearing loss (fig 1).
