Ministers agree to negotiate new long term contract for GPs in England

The BMA’s General Practitioners Committee for England (GPCE) has accepted contract changes for 2025-26 after the government formally agreed to its request to negotiate a completely new national contract by 2028.
Last month,1 GPCE agreed “in principle” to an £889m funding uplift to GPs’ contracts for 2025-26, on the condition that the government committed to negotiating a completely new long term deal within the current parliament.
