David Weldon—President Donald Trump’s nominee to head the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)—was withdrawn from the process about an hour before he was set to appear at a hearing to confirm him into post.1
Weldon told the New York Times that “they didn’t have the votes to confirm” his nomination by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) on 13 March.2 Media site The Hill reported that Weldon’s vaccine scepticism led to the lack of support.4
