Scrap 10 minute consultations, RCGP urges

The standard 10 minute GP consultation should be scrapped by 2030 as part of a major shake-up in the delivery of primary care, the Royal College of General Practitioners has advised.

Extending GP consultations to 15 minutes, or longer for those who need it, would provide more appropriate and effective care to patients with increasingly complex needs, the college said. Its recommendations are included in a new report outlining its vision for the future of general practice,1 which sets out how it would like to see care delivered by 2030.
